Forty Acres Scholarship

“Forty Acres” is a scholarship program at The University of Texas at Austin. The program provides a full scholarship, covering tuition and fees, room and board, and additional expenses, to selected outstanding students from historically underrepresented communities.

The program is named after the historic Forty Acres area of the UT Austin campus, which was originally donated by the state of Texas in 1883 and later purchased by the university. The area was used as farmland and eventually became the site of many of the university’s most important buildings.

To be eligible for the Forty Acres Scholarship, applicants must be admitted to UT Austin as incoming freshmen, demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential, and commitment to community service. Applicants must also come from a historically underrepresented community, which includes African Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, Native Americans, and first-generation college students.
